Mule deer and Coues whitetail are the "ghosts" of the desert, using oversized ears as radiators to dump heat in the midday sun. They are remarkably resilient, often getting all their necessary hydration from moisture-rich cacti and brush when water is scarce. To navigate the rocky terrain, they’ve mastered a unique, high-stepping leap called "stotting" that lets them vanish into the brush at a moment’s notice.
